Traveling can be an amazing experience, however, when you’re traveling with your family it might turn out to be very expensive. If you travel for business regularly, taking your folks with you might be a good idea, but you have to prepare in advance to ensure you don’t spend your monthly budget in a week. There are a few tips that will help you save some money without being frugal.
- Choose coach class.
Sometimes it’s the same as business class, just cheaper. Unless you’re flying to another part of the world, you can spend 4-5 hours in coach class. It will save you plenty of money if you travel with 3-4 people.
- Look for good deals.
There are sites where you can monitor hot deals. That way you might get some coupons to get some stuff for your trip or get the cheapest tickets.
- Start saving on the road.
Don’t take your car to an airport and definitely don’t leave it there. You will face a large parking fee upon arrival. Try to get a cab to take you to an airport. If you worry that it won’t make it on time, consider renting a limo company. If you have a professional chauffeur, they will come on time.
- Consider Airbnb or couch surfing.
Getting an expensive hotel room is cool when there is someone paying for you. However, if your boss doesn’t get you a room and you have to pay yourself, consider AirBnB or couch surfing. There are many nice people willing to spare you a room for 2 days!
- Spend time together.
If you decide to travel with your family, you absolutely have to spend some time together. You can’t just leave your folks up to themselves, it would be unfair. Talk to your boss and spend at least a day together.
- Stick to a certain plan.
If you develop a plan for your trip (e.g. excursions, plan out your days, etc.) you will save more. Stick to a plan, but don’t make it too tight to the point when it becomes uncomfortable for you.
- Don’t eat out.
Unless you absolutely have to or you’re a big fan of restaurants, don’t eat out. Restaurants and cafes and usually the second biggest expense after buying flight tickets. If you really want to save some money, consider getting food in stores and cooking yourself. If you google some recipes, it would be fun.
Family travel can be quite cheap if you approach it smartly. Remember that you have to save on tickets, rooms and food. If you can find a way to save there, you won’t spend much at all. Then, traveling becomes really fun.
